I have noticing that some people have been recievig likely postcards. Needless to say, I haven't gotten one. What does that mean for me? Should I lose hope??? I'm freaking out!!!

If it helps, I never received a likely post card last year either.

Most of the people who get likely cards will probably be considered for the Monroe program.

Possibly there is a thread from last year (do those still exist?) that you could look through to see who got a postcard and who got offered Monroe.

The vast majority of people who are accepted will not get a postcard.

My daughter was accepted in 2007, without receiving a likely postcard. I wonder the odds of those receiving a likely and actually attending.

Like soccerguy said, the postcards seem to indicate consideration for Monroe, which is defined as:

Students selected usually graduated in the highest range of their high school classes and present standardized test scores in the top five percent nationally.

momray, I'd be curious to know that (percentage of 'likely' recipients that actually attend) as well. Students like this are 'competed for' by colleges, to a certain extent. Like most schools do for such honors programs, W&M send out these notifications early, (I think there were reports of ~2 weeks early, perhaps even more on this forum.) edit: a quick Google shows someone saying they got their Monroe notification 3-11 last year. Based on that, my guess is the first Monroe letters are in the mail now ...

The postcard, and the early notification, is likely designed to hook these competed-for students early -- or at least, prevent, say UVA/Echols from doing the same thing. They wouldn't want someone to send in their UVA attendance deposit before they've even received their W&M acceptance letter.

Anyway, I'd think the attendance rate for anyone in Monroe is probably somewhat less than someone at, say, the middle 50%, simply because those students are likely to have more acceptances to choose from.

thanks so much. my heart attack has subsided...only a little though
