Likely Postcard???!!!

I got a postcard from W&M basically saying they had reviewed my letter and anticipate sending me good news in the spring. Then the admissions rep handwrote “hope to see you in August!” Could this mean I’m going to get the coveted scholarship???

Thanks and goodluck to everyone!!!

Congrats, that’s awesome! W&M is known for likely letters so I’d call it a good sign, check their admissions blog in the following days and look to see if they make any comments on the card. Also, may I ask what general area you live in/when you turned in your application?

We received the same postcard. It said nothing about a scholarship, and being an out of state student pretty much precludes DS from any good merit aid. What it means to me is that your application and qualifications were really good and they’re going to admit you. It’s kind of like EA for a school that doesn’t have EA.

S also got postcard- really? Any evidence this is meaningful? Or do all higher stats applicants get this and it’s not actually related to eventual admission?

Theres a post on the blog up about it, same thing theyve said in years past. it’s sent to ~25% of the admitted class so it’s encouraging but by no means a promise

Thank you very much! Found the link- just what we needed to know.

I’m from the Louisville area @Raelte

The admissions postcard means that you will likely get accepted and they wanted to give you a nice “heads up” before the eventual admissions package in April. It generally goes out to all the applications that they review early and are ones that they are sure are going to get in. It does not however guarantee any sort of scholarship. Those are far and in between, and are generally given to exceptional applicants.
