If a person is taking the SAT and likely to do pretty good, is it all advisable to take the ACT ? Which colleges also look at the ACT ? Thanks. Marc

It is advisable to take practice tests on both and see which test you do better on. I don't think you can predict in advance.

Every school except Harvey Mudd takes the ACT.

as long as you have a good SAT you really don't need the ACT, but you might want to take it anyway, if you think you 'll get a good score.

It also depends on whether the schools you are applying to also want SAT IIs. Most schools (except some Ivies) that do require SAT IIs will accept the ACT alone instead of both SAT I and SAT IIs. So you may save yourself some testing by taking the ACT and doing well.

This is a good point. You also don't have to report any lackluster SAT II scores to such schools if you decide to go with the ACT.

Here is a thread where someone compiled a list of those schools that allow the ACT to stand by itself. You need to go down to message #9. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=229607

Of course, take the advice given there and always double check with potential schools.

Take the ACT unless you have a 2400 SAT. What is the worst that can happen? You get a 36.

That's quite a "worst" -- what's the best :)
