Took the SAT and got a good score... necessary to take the ACT?

I took the December SAT and got a 2300... satisfactory enough for me.

I want to take the ACT, but I'm not sure if it's really necessary with my 2300. I've been getting 32-33 on practice ACTs, so taking it wouldn't hurt right?

Do colleges look at both scores when you send in your app if you send them both scores?

32-33 is about 2130-2190 (SAT-ACT Conversion chart), so you'd actually be scoring lower unless you got a 35 (2340).

2300 is very very good. 99.6th percentile. More than you need for admission to basically anywhere.

I've heard colleges look at all scores above some point as basically the same, since you obviously know all the SAT material and the test is less accurate near the top. This point might be more like 2350, but still, you're fine.

Colleges don't expect you to take both; it's just an extra test. I don't think it's necessary to take the ACT unless you think your SAT score is low and doesn't reflect your true abilities.

So basically, no, don't waste your time and money. I don't know if colleges look at both if you submit both.

The ACT is really helpful if you don't take SAT II's since many schools will require SAT and SAT II or just the ACT so if you do well on the ACT and poorly on the SAT II then just send the ACT. Take the ACT, why not?

Steven brings up a really good point. Schools, such as Brown for example, will take either the SAT Reasoning and two SAT IIs OR the ACT.

But, not all colleges are like Brown. For many, SAT IIs are mandatory. I'd say spend that time you would use studying for the ACT to study for SAT IIs.

I already have 3 SAT II's under my belt, so I think I'm OK. I'm definitely being swayed towards not taking it though... I could be using that time to study for midterms! :D

along these same lines. . . a question. What if you have taken both SAT and ACT (along with SAT subject tests in Math 2 & Physics) with the following scores:SAT -2320 w/Crit. Reading- 800, Math -800, Writing -720; ACT -34w/Eng-35, Math-31, reading-36, Science -34; SAT sub tests Math 2 -720 & Physics-780. . . applying to MIT, Carnegie Mellon, CalTech, Harvey Mudd among a few others. . .should the student send all scores for validation purposes? Thanks for any and all input.

Lauren -- You are allset and would be better off spending your time on research not more standardized tests..good luck.

Wow -- that's weird how did my post end up above Lauren's??

to LaurenM5... send all your scores... it will give the admissions the best picture of you as a test taker and they are all very good... anyway you have to send all the SAT's at once

yeah i wouldn't take the ACT if i were you - you seem all set!! spend your time doing something FUN... like, more college apps :-/

the essence of my question is this: should the applicant list both the ACT and SAT?
Thanks.

to LaurenM5... yes send both

thanks for your opinion, Mythbuster2000.

^^ yeah colleges will usually only judge you on the higher one :) so, send both.
