Is an invitacion to GYLC a pluss in my app

hi.. i want to know... i was invited to gylc.. and im international... should i send the invitation with my app?... it is a plus for me??

thanxx..

I doubt it; GYLC's an expensive program that sends out invites based only upon SAT scores or the recommendations of previous participants so I wouldn't think it'd have that much 'prestige' value.

That's not to say that it isn't a worthwhile program if you decide to go for it.

Haha - no. Don't send it along. Colleges will seriously laugh at you. Your FRIENDS nominate you. As ^ said, very little prestige.

however, I do know that the people who have gone have enjoyed it - but it isn't really an academic experience I think... pretty sure it's more fluffy.

This is the same as the People to People program that keeps on flooding my mailbox, beginning from freshman year.

If you have the resources for the program and would enjoy a fun summer, go for it.

Otherwise, it's not a very academically prestigious program. A general rule of thumb to keep in mind is that highly selective programs generally already have a very large applicant pool (RSI, TASP) and does not need to send out recruitment letters in large batches.

i think everyone gets one of these letters so prestige ain't that high:)
