most of my friends who took SATs got nominated for gylc through collegeboard but i didnt get nominated...does anyone know abt this?

If you mean Global Young leaders Conference by GYLC, then don’t worry about it. From what’s I’ve seen on CC, it’s a random spam to basically everyone that gets a decent score in the SAT (I said ‘random’, so not getting the invitation doesn’t indicate that your score isn’t ‘decent’ enough). The sole purpose of this zero-prestigious is to collect money from rich kids who want good-looking experience on their resume. Moreover, according to the program schedule I received, it’s extremely difficult to actually gain anything from it.

It isn’t anything significant; don’t sweat it if you weren’t nominated. I don’t think I’ve ever even heard of GYLC before, and my non-superscored SAT is just 10 points shy of a 2300.

Yeah don’t sweat not being nominated, its not really based on how good you are anyways.
I was nominated my senior year though and I went, while mathematicism is right and its not prestigious, I met a lot of lifelong friends who I miss very much right now. But also, you can probably get the same or better experience from a study abroad at whatever university you choose to attend.

Trust me, don’t worry about it, it’s just a resume padder. I’m only a freshman, so I haven’t taken the SATs yet, and I’ve gotten it every year since 6th grade. Apparently it’s based off of teacher reccomendations and State Test scores for us.

Like schoolisfun, all three of my kids have received these invites year after year. My DD just received another one this week (second one in a few months) and she commented that she received 2 emails saying she’d be receiving a letter nominating her - same stupidity as the letter we received saying we’d be receiving the census.

Ilovefhf, don’t worry about the program. You know YOU have to pay for it, right? If you want to attend, I think your GC or a teacher at your school can nominate you. Just ask if you’re interested.

My SAT score is quite high and I didn’t receive a nomination, although I have received nominations for numerous other worthless programs similar to GYLC which are essentially scams.

Lol Jersey, I believe “quite high” is an understatement ;)

I think many of these leadership conferences are just worthless. They charge a lot to keep themselves and various speakers in business.

What if I were the only one nominated in my entire year? I am an international so we aren’t nominated by collegeboard, and it isn’t based on our SAT. I was chosen for my academics. Would the case be different for me if I attend, how could I show this on my application?

I was an international student and I was nominated through collegeboard. And its never just based on academics, someone, either a past attendee or a teacher, nominated you. In and of itself GYLC doesn’t say much on an application. But you CAN maybe work it into your essay. Seeing different countries, meeting people from different cultures, exploring differences, yadda, yadda.
If you wanna go, and you can easily afford to go, I say go.
