Is an SAT II score in the 75th percentile bad?

So, I finally got my scores online tonight. I see a 740 under Math II, and I was SOOO HAPPY, because I thought I bombed it completely. Then, I click on my score report, and I see that it's in the 75th percentile, which didn't exactly burst my bubble, but it kinda deflated it a little :). I'm not a psycho perfectionist who is all, "OMFG I didn't get an 800, I'm suchhh a failure." Hardly. The fact remains, though, that I applied to Duke ED, and I'm looking at super-competitive schools for RD (Stanford, Princeton are the toughest ones.) Is a Math II score of 740 (but 75th %ile) going to help, hurt, or not really affect my application? Btw, I'm hoping to major in Bio (I got a 730 on that test, which was roughly in the 90th percentile).

My 770 was in the 79th percentile in may/06

My son scored an 800 in Physics and that was (IIRC) only 91st percentile. I wouldn't worry about it. 740 is a good result.

i dont think the percentiles matter...it's the score.

740 is fine. My niece got a 560 and had already taken college calculus at Ursinus as a high school junior. She is an engineering major at Penn State now.
From this forum you will believe that anything under 800 for the Math II is a disgrace. That isn't true. You will be fine.

The answer: no, because some of these tests have screwy percentiles ( for example, an 800 in Chinese = 61st percentile whereas 800 in World History = 98th percentile).

I dont think it would influence you directly, but indirect, 25% of the people scored the same as you did/above you, so if these 25% are the only ones applying to Duke, then your great SATII score wont give you the advantage that it should.
er, but that's just a hypothetical situation.. I hope it made sense.

Obviously it's bad. 75% is a C. C's are bad. Duh.

690 in chem is a 62 percentile : )

I don't think colleges are going to care about the percentiles for SATII's as so much as SATI's. Firstly, the people who take it, are generally those who excel in that subject, thus it is obviously harder to obtain relatively better %-tile.

anything above a 700 is considered very good. at least thats what I think.

somebody doesn't know the difference between percentiles and percents..
lol, what if 5 people took a 100 question test and aced it and you missed one.. 0th percentile, 99 percent?

Someone doesn't know the difference between a joke and a serious post.

someone doesn't know the difference between a joke in reply to a joke post versus a serious post in reply to a joke post.

someone doesnt know the difference between a joke reply to a joke in reply to a joke post versus a serious post to reply to a serious post in reply to a joke post.

someone needs to get a life.

ownnnnnnnnnnned!

Definitely gonna hurt. People saying otherwise are idiots.

Just because it is over 700 does not mean it is a good score because it is not on a normal distribution. When the average is like 680 or 690 for math, getting a 730 is not very impressive when most other kids have close to 800.

Won't hurt too much, but it will hurt.
