Hello, I’m applying to Princeton this fall, and I got a 760 on Math II, and I retook today and probably got in the same ballpark. It seems like I can’t finish the questions in the allotted time. I guess I’m just worried if my lower math two scores will be a hindrance upon my application. Thank you. I also took physics today, and I believe I will get high 700’s. So I guess, is there a threshold where they stop worrying about the Sat II
I’ve read that anything over 700 is good. Isn’t 800 the top score? (Which I’ve never read of anyone getting).
Yes, and you passed it.
I’m not sure which this phrase strikes me as - clickbait or simply disingenuous. Neither is becoming.
Your 760 will not be the reason you get rejected from any college (although it won’t do you any favors for MIT of Caltech). The “woe is me” attitude that you seem to have in this thread and some of your others though, if apparent in your essays and/or recs, will most definitely not win you points. Good luck.
@skieurope
It definitely won’t show up. But, I just don’t truly understand how important the subject tests are, so it worries me.
Also, I’m coming hot off the heels of a rough outing, so I apologize for the tone. I’m in the still trying to accept what happened stage.
They are “recommended” not “required” for Princeton. So my guess is that they are less important than those items which are required. But even for a college that requires them, and even if there were a hypothetical college that placed a huge weight on Subject Tests in their hypothetical admissions formula, a 760 would not send your application to the trash can. So you’re worrying excessively.
Alright, thank you!
“I’ve read that anything over 700 is good. Isn’t 800 the top score? (Which I’ve never read of anyone getting).”
Lots of people get 800 on Math 2. It’s so common that it only puts you in the 80th percentile (top 20% of scorers). Not to stress the original poster out… 760 is still quite good and the reason so many people get 800 is that only the strong math students take Math 2.
@washugrad
I would consider myself a strong math student, but I’m a slow worker haha. But, yeah it’s too late to change for REA I assume
Part of the reason I did not address it, but since it’s brought up.
Don’t get caught up with percentiles. It is important to understand that for several subjects, the percentiles are depressed because so few colleges request Subject Tests, that the ones that do are the ultra selective ones. As a result, it is the high achieving kids taking the tests. No AO is sitting on the floor cross-referencing scores with percentiles.
You won’t know about your test results from today for at least another two weeks. So why the loom and gloom? Relax a bit, you did two tests today, get off your phone and go to see a movie or do something fun tonight. Good luck.
If it makes you feel better, I took it yesterday and didn’t finish either haha. I’m in the same boat as you, but you’re in the high 700s and that’s good enough. If you’re not applying engineering or math, don’t worry about it at all.
@onceand4all
Rip… I’m applying as a physics major.
But, I think I should be fine. Right? I don’t know haha
It’s Princeton. You’re dealing with so many factors way more influential than you sat 2 score. Which is perfectly fine. If the rest of your academics are elite you’ll get a strong score in that category. They move on to all the others. It’s only one facet and so few slots. It won’t make the difference. Good luck.
