Freshman and sophmore year I was pretty average getting A's and B's in regular (freshman year) and honors (sophmore year) classes. That put my GPA at about a 3.75. But this year my GPA is already above a 4 and I am loving my classes (2 APs). If I can keep this up and do great this year and next year will I be able to be considered with other competative students or will the lower GPA in freshman and sophmore year make me a weaker case? Does an increase in difficulty of classes as well as an upward tend in GPA help, or atleast do enough to off set lower grades?

An upward trend is looked upon nicely. It's better than a downward trend. Shows motivation and intesnity. Keep your hopes up. I'm not sure how much you could/would compete with other competitive students cause it's more than just GPA for admissions. Increase in difficulty + upward trend = Good. Make sure your senior classes are tough, too.
