And what praytell is the potential you see in Riverside?

My friend transfered out of UCR and she was so relieved to get out. She came to college expecting to meet interesting, different people who can hold an intellectual conversation. She was looking for an environment that would challenge her not only academically, but as a person as well. She left UCR feeling like her IQ dropped several points. She compalined the AP classes she took in high school were more challenging than at UCR. And she felt like it was high school all over again because most of the students were from the surrouding area. It was hard for her to make friends, and most people came off shallow.

I urge you to reconsider your options. Get out of your trailer park and explore the world. Staying in a "safe" environment, where you remain unchallenged really stunts your growth, and the unmotivated people at UCR make it worse. You have so much going for you, and its shame to see it thrown away.

Ambrosias: I respect your opinion, but I really wonder what kind of effort your friend really made to fit in? I mean, all she really needs to fit in is a good pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes to wander through the tumbleweed in. Does she at least own a Gucci purse?

"Maybe I should consult my pastor on the matter? I find that in these hard times one must put their faith in the Lord. Don't you all agree? If there's anything Riverside has taught me, it has taught me to have faith."

Man, not even THE POPE could save you, if you stay in Riverside.

If you're looking to meet interesting, different people who can hold an intellectual conversation, and to be challeneged academically, you will find the 180-degree polar opposite at UC Riverside. Indeed, informal and unpublished observations confirm that IQ follows a negative linear relationship with respect to exposure time to Riverside.

Lsmith, i dont know what you're thinking. You're turning down Johns Hopkins for UCR?!?!?! No way in four years is UCR catching Johns Hopkins, ucla, ucsd, or UM for that matter. Unless you're going into business, there's no reason to go to riverside. People call it riverhell for a reason.

You're playing games here. Heard your story way too many times. You seem to be defending UCR rather than looking for some input. Seems like you really need some counselling for being accepted only by UCR of all UCs you applied to. Don't sweat, my cousin graduated from UCR and he got admitted to NYU Dental School. Stop making up stories.

If you are into PRE-MED....why turn down John Hopkins ? It is excellent choice for that program and if you want to stay in California, I recommend you choose UCLA. Good social and academic school located in the hustle and bustle of Wilshire and Westwood

about over 90% of Bruins & alumnis enjoyed their 4 years at UCLA...

Well I'm actually quite offended that you think I only got into UCR. I came on this website to try and see what the general population thinks of these schools I've been accepted to. Do you all think I don't realize how prestigious John Hopkins is? It's just that the idea of moving from Riverside really scares me. Therefore I'm trying to justify going to UCR over John Hopkins.
How would you all like to be in my situation? I'm 18 years old, all alone, and have no idea what to do. Plus, if I stay here, I get to keep my job at Target.

There are three locations in the Baltimore area near Johns Hopkins:

Baltimore (Independent City) MD (US)
Baltimore Corner (Caroline) MD (US)
Baltimore Highlands (Baltimore) MD (US)

Have you contacted corporate headquarters to see about transfering your position? Did you really get into a school that you don't know how to spell the name of?

I did some more research on Wikipedia today, and journalists are making a very convincing argument as to why I shouldn't go to UCR. When I woke up this morning I noticed the brown haze settling over the city, and thought, could things really be better outside of Riverside? Maybe I should put in a request for a transfer to another Target?

hey UCRgrad...i'm curious to know why exactly you hate ucr sooo much? i'm guessing you spent all 4 years there and graduated successfully. it's just kind of mean how everyone is so discouraging. some people may have NO choice but to attend ucr and this thread isn't helping to make them feel good about what they have to face.

and lsmith...nice made up story about your life. it's really creative. and go to ucr if you really want to. it can't be as horrible as people make it to be. don't let a bunch of strangers make up your future and don't get all bent out of shape about what they are saying.

but aside from this...im going to uc davis this fall? anyone else??

I don't believe the story, but if it is true, he could sell it. Interesting theory about UCRgrad and lsmith being one and the same. Good detective work rage_fan.

"anyone think that lsmith and UCRgrad are the same person. Both have join date of april 2006 and same post count.."

Interesting theory, but I don't even think I could make up that kind of hogwash if I tried. If his story has any merit, then he'd be a perfect fit at UCR. He's the kind of person you'd expect to meet at the end of your hall in East Lothian.

"some people may have NO choice but to attend ucr and this thread isn't helping to make them feel good about what they have to face."

This thread is NOT meant for you. Read the title: "consider UCR OVER ANOTHER UC"...if you don't have any other choice than UCR, this thread is 100% irrelevant to you. I can't help you. If it bothers you, don't read it. Seriously. Enjoy the next 4 years of your life....or try to transfer.
