Is anyone else fed up?

I have had all my materials in since November 24. I called their admissions office yesterday and they said I should expect by March 1st. Isn't this kind of ridiculous? I picked up a French class because their admissions officer requested me to, and I just want to know if I've been accepted. This is too stressful!!!

You're not the only one. Quit stressing. It happens to hundreds of kids every year. They said March 1st? Wow that's early. Usually you don't hear back until mid April.

I'm in the same situation! I had all my materials in by the 15th of November... most people who missed EA are in the same situation, all eight kids at my school are yet to hear.

I wish Umich would give me a scholarship or something so i could possible go there.

I got a letter yesterday informing I should hear from them around early April :(

why didn't you ER? i mean if you were 14 days off.. thats not that bad..

My friend missed ER b/c his teacher rec. got lost. (We applied the same day though). I heard in the beginning of December, and he is getting really pssed off waiting.
Everyone that applied a couple weeks after ER is getting pssed.

It will be 16 weeks on Thursday, for my son/s final item! What is really irritating is that a recent email asking whether to send in first tri grades isn't being answered. What happened to the end of January/ early Feb date? Since I have given up (unfortunately not my son), I want to ask for my application fee back. You can't charge for a service, reviewing an application, that you don't provide.

were you all oos. i sent my stuff in by november 28 and heard back last friday, maybe that was because i was in-state.

If you apply to:

Would you call admissions at these schools ridiculous too?

I think we should give the admission folks at U-M a break. They tried to improve their service by implementing ER this year ... but obviously they grossly underestimated the response. Someone in another thread said that around 70% of the applications came in before the ER deadline. I can imagine that really screwed up their normal process.

I wouldn't compare to UIUC though. I haven't heard of any big problems with their priority or regular decision admissions (they seem to be giving back responses on the promised deadlines, in fact they gave some out early accidentally this year). Also, February 15 is significantly earlier than a vague estimate of March 1st.

As for some of the other schools, plenty do respond in April. However, many of their deadlines (at least mine) were Jan 1 or 2. For U of M, applying that late means you are much less likely to be accepted.

You have to take into account that they have probably gotten more applications than in past years. They're probably trying to make the right decisions.

wrong. wisconsin got my transcript (last part of my app) very beginning of december, I heard back a couple weeks ago

Well GOBlue81 that is the problem, all the schools you mentioned said upfront when you would heard. Michigan went from December 21st to mid January to end January-beginning of February to end of March. An attempt at honest communication would have gone a long way. By December 14th , my sons Counselor had to know he was not going to be considered ER. My son stated in the email that the rec was not received till November 1st. Instead of an honest answer, he got a response back with the old party line if it was marked received by the 10th you are considered ER.

I worked with the admissions office at an information session last August, and, if I remember correctly, thousands of applications had already been started. It has to be much worse now.

Give them a break. Be patient. This will be good practice for many experiences later in life. (If it makes you feel any better, I just finished a really long wait for a decision on a study abroad program though Duke University because so many things went wrong with my application. However, in the end, I was accepted so the wait was worthwhile. Even so, I know how you feel.)

Would you rather see Michigan going to a priority date and RD/fixed release date system instead of rolling?

This is a myth. To say that you have a "much less likely" chance to be admitted is gross exaggeration. I know of a few students who applied on Feb 1 and were admitted within a month. In previous years, you have to apply real early to get some benefit. With the implementation of ER and the overwhelming response, I'd say any time you apply after Oct 30, your chance will be pretty much the same.

@GoBlue81: Thanks! That was really reassuring actually. I applied on Feb 1st and personally, I was really hoping I get into UMich :) But when I read a couple of other chances threads here, I was pretty disappointed as it was mentioned that I needed to have applied real early :( But thanks!

That may be because you are a clear admit for Wisconsin. I know of quite a number of students who are still waiting to hear from Wisconsin (they applied late in December though).

I know of one student who heard back from Michigan in three weeks. His application was complete on Oct 30 and he was a clear admit.

well your worry seems normal, i applied postmark dec 13 and got my decision on jan 15...but everyone else in my school is still awaiting decisions, i guess some universities have an erratic system, and yea, the scanning/paper department also may have your papers flying around late

all your papers/documents are scanned....all admissions officers are only permitted to view electronic forms of the paper..the uni destorys paper after you are in or out...thats what i was told from my counsellor
