Alright so I sent my application at the end of December. The same time as all the rest of my schools. Most of my colleges had gone through and organized my application by about January 7. So I was worried when I didn't hear from Pitzer College if they got my application. They apparently didn't finish checking for my application until the vary end of January-long after the rest of my colleges confirmed with me they had received my application. When I called admissions in mid January they shrugged off my question of when they would have finished checking to see what they had from student which bothered me.
Also, I received a message in the mail this week from Pitzer giving a heads up that financial aid information was due on Feb 1 and it was past the deadline when I received the letter (thankfully I had already sent my financial information in mid January).
So here is what I am wondering: Has anyone else been experiencing the same difficulties with Pitzer that I have? Did I just expect to much from the application time because my other colleges responded very quickly? Is the slower pace a reflection of what the school will be like, disorganized and slow paced? I'm just worried that I might have had my hopes to high with the school.

Whatever their organizational methods are for weeding through all their applications works for them, it doesn’t have to work for you. You have to wait until March to receive your admissions status so what difference does it make to you if you receive confirmation early or late January? If you were missing something they would have told you then and you could have dealt with it then. Just because you are impatient doesn’t mean they need to cater to that. You said nothing of them being disorganized, just slower to confirm receipt.

How many applications do they have versus your other schools? How many staff members reviewing and logging in the information received? Perhaps they have fewer staff members because they’d rather spend their money on academics than admissions. I don’t know this to be true at all just saying, what’s the hurry? If they don’t get back to you with an acceptance or rejection by March 31 then you have something to complain about. Right now, you’re just being an anxious 17 year old.

Regarding the FA postcard, we received one also but I don’t remember when it was. Did they confirm receipt of your FA forms? That would be something I would want to be certain of if FA is important to you.

I would guess a lot of schools are dealing with ED and even EDII applications before they get serious about the RD ones. Good luck. I have a lot of sympathy for admissions officers… can’t imagine how they deal with the flood of hopes and dreams they must wade through. Admissions is a different administration than the regular college one so I wouldn’t make assumptions based on this no matter what your impression.

I did receive that financial aid post card after the date, as well. I think it’s funny how you bring up the slow pace of the school. One of my primary reasons for applying to west coast schools is because of their easygoing and generally happy lifestyle. If you want fast paced workaholics who respond to demands like robots–you need east coast schools. I’ve lived 17 years in the NE…I’d welcome a change. But like a previous poster stated, you can’t really make assumptions about what goes on behind the closed doors of an admissions office.

Thanks for the responses! I am sorry if I came off as being rude. It is true that I am anxious but I think its more because the rest of my schools set the bar very high. After hearing what abc1230 had to say I do think that the speed is a result of the different cultures between the two coasts. I am from the East Coast and have most of the schools I have applied to on the East coast with the only other school I am applying to in Ca being Soka which has a lot of characteristics which are more similar to Japan than the United States. I feel quite a lot better now and I truly am happy for that.

I agree with the previous posters, don’t worry about it! Although I do know what you mean in that Pitzer seems to sort of “advertise” itself a bit less than other colleges. By this I’m referring to the propaganda some kids get before and after they have sumbitted their apps in order to entice them to attend. I’ve found this to be the case with all the 5Cs in that they do very little to try to lure you to come because they know students who apply generally have them within their top choices. I’m assuming the advertising money is spent more on the actual students themselves who turn out to be very happy.
That said, Pitzer and its admissions directors have been very responsive to my questions and one person I know who got in early was sent a valentine’s day card signed by all the admissions staff.

Yes we are feeling the same. And thought the FA postcard rec’d after the fact was an embarrassment. We havent been to campus. Don’t know much about it. HS counselor thought it would be a “good fit”. What can anyone tell us who has been there?

as a native Californian I do admit that the whole “laid back west coast” feel does apply to a lot of colleges, Pitzer lackadaisical approach to admissions goes wayyyy too far. i applied to pitzer early December and I’ve yet to hear a word from them. Not even an email confirming all my data has been received or announcing when decisions will be released. And as far as I can tell there’s no way to check my admission status online so basically I’ve been waiting for anything from them by email, mail, phone call or most probably snail mail
:p

To applesnbannanas.
Continuing with the rest of the thread I also agree that the lack of information sent to us is borderline insulting and at the very least extremely frustrating. To focus on you though applesnbannanas, they did send out 3 emails. One where I was notified that they had received my application (The day after I sent it in). A second alerting me to where I could check if all my different application material had reached them. And a third correcting the second email after they sent out the wrong URL. You might want to check your spam folder or you could have just forgotten they sent them, like I did. Its easy to forget when its been a 2+ months.

Accepted to LMU DU. CSU UNM. ASU. Mich State. rejected by Pitzer. Go figure.

Look at your post #7. Pitzer is not a good match for you and it showed. Numbers aren’t everything, they are just a starting point.

I was just reviewing the Acceptance Packet and I have to say it is the most complete and informative Acceptance Packet we have received from all the schools. It gives you so much info in such a simple, clear manner. I am very impressed, not feeling let down at all!
