It's seemed that the college application process has been on the horizon for 3 years. Now that it's here the reality has not really sunk in yet. I can't believe this is my last year and that everything I've worked for will come down to this last 6 months. At this point I don't even want to think about applications.. But I know I'll have to get to it eventually. I've seen alot of posts about how excited people are. There's some excitement but right now I'm a mixed bag. Anyone else have mixed feelings about the process?

I definitely did. I thought “If I have to fill out one more of these!!!” It can be extremely tedious AND stressful, but once they are all done you feel relieved. Also, don’t procrastinate in getting them done, it really makes it way worse in the end. Not to mention, not everyone has the opportunity to attend college, so try to make the best of all the hard work!

Being nervous is so normal! Everyone is excited but underneath that excitement lies doubt and worry. It can be scary but you have your counselor to walk you through it, and after it’s completed you have the greatest sense of accomplishment!

Just try your hardest now and remember there is much more to come AFTER the application!

Dude who isn’t nervous ?? All of us are . Just remember that few years from now you’ll look back and laugh at these moments (:

From a parent’s perspective: A year from now, all of you guys will be getting ready to attend fine schools. So do your best job on your apps, but there’s no need to stress out. You will get beyond this, and the next four years will likely be one of the most enjoyable experiences of your life.

Wait until after January 1st. Now that’s nervousness. Good luck till then though

Applying to college is a very important milestone in one’s life. You must market yourself to look good to colleges. I am excited to finally be going through it! It’ll be rough, but ultimately worth it :)

i’m a JUNIOR and i’m super nervous already…stupid standardized testing. i’d seriously be a lot better off if every college gave their own entrance exam, lol. standardized tests scare me.

haha, there are so many of these threads now.

I’ll be going crazy in November when I’ll be putting all my apps into completion.

Try to keep it in perspective so you won’t be so stressed. If you go to ANY college you will still be of the top 1% educated population in the world.

^^ why ?? Is that because he will be studying in the US ??

No, I think they mean that we’ll be going to college period. Upon further research (nerd) only 6.7% of the world has a college education. Wow. So yeah… practically the top 1%.

Wow, 6.7 ONLY . What a world !! let’s leave to mars , how about that ??

“everything I’ve worked for will come down to this last 6 months”

Don’t drink that kool-aid. Everything you’ve worked for will be reflected in the trajectory of your life. It isn’t about getting into this or that school - so don’t see acceptance or rejection as a validation or judgement on what you’ve accomplished so far. That is setting yourself up for an ugly year. Instead, remind yourself that no matter where you go, who you are and what you do with your opportunities is much more important than the name of the school. Repeat that mantra every time you start to get anxious.

^ Yeah, no kidding.

The irony is the best candidates for the top schools are so self assured about themselves, their own potential and their projected life trajectory that the actual school that conveys their degree isn’t that huge. Coming into my Senior year, I was 100% confident that I’d have a great final year and that I’d be going to a great college in 12 months – bar nothing.

This confidence must have shown through – I applied to my in-state (and highly ranked) public’s early notification, got my acceptance in late October and was set. Then I went about applying to some Ivies and other top engineering programs w/o much expectation or concern. Got into them all and chose the best one for me. I was pretty free of stress from day one.

Would worrying about this have gotten me any further? Looking back at it I say definitely NO. I would have been honored to attend any single one of the colleges that admitted me (that’s why I applied to them in the first place). Years later, i know that people’s knowledge of my alma mater may raise an eyebrow but I mostly keep it under wraps as it causes a gulf btn me and most people in everyday interaction.

Relax. Been there, done that – it’s not worth over stressing about.

Try to think of this time in your life as EXCITING . You will be getting lots of interesting feedback about your life so far . My D had an early acceptance into an Honors program abroad that she was excited about , and she breezed through the senior year . She ended up at Harvard . If you can find an early acceptance that thrills you ,you will be much more confident about the process .
