Is anyone else sick of hearing "Cornell?"

One drawback of attending Grinnell is that you will forever be saying "no, not Cornell--Grinnell." Even Google asks "do you mean Cornell?" when you do a search on Grinnell. Anybody else have this experience?

I have that problem with Grinnell and Cornell COLLEGE

Me: “I got accepted to Cornell College…”

Other person:[cuts me off]“really, holy ****, thats great! Wow, I have always dreamed of going to an ivy…”

Me: “No, its a LAC in Iowa”

OP: “Oh… Thats good, I guess”

I’ve had that too, Dairy State K8. My brother first thought I said Cornell when I told him I was applying to Grinnell and even after I corrected him, he later told someone I had applied to Cornell.

Yesssss! It’s both hilarious and awkward - “I’m going to Grinnell College” …“Cornell? Oh wow!” “No, GRInnell college. It’s in Iowa.” “Ohhh…that’s good…”

Oh well, at least I know I’m going to an amazing school. It’s like my own little secret. :D

ahaha that’s definitely happened to me more than once. =]

When I tell people who haven’t heard of it they just can’t pronounce it correctly for some reason, not that it’s even hard ha ha, it’s very amusing. They usually call it “Griiinel” or “GrAnel” lol

SmallColleges, does Cornell College use the block plan?

Yes it does, its a great LAC, but I won’t be attending it, but does give very good merit aid.

Yes, that has happened here. I actually graduated from Cornell, the nursing school in NYC that no longer exists. My son is a happy Grinnell student and I have learned to ignore the puzzled frowns.

SmallColleges

I think you have some great options. Love the ones you’re with.

amherst > umass amherst
pomona > cal poly pomona
wustl > washington

at least grinnell is mistaken for an equally good school :)

Haha! We got the cal poly pomona also.

Grinnell is one of my top choices right now (I’m a junior) and my boyfriend’s actually going to Cornell next year, ha :D
