Is anyone here familiar with graduate housing?

So I'm starting grad school at UF in the fall and I'm wondering what graduate dorms I should be looking at. I'm thinking of Diamond Village because it's close to all the engineering buildings -- which as someone who is studying engineering I'm guessing that's where many of my classes are going to be. On the other hand it seems to be close to the fraternities/sororities which I would like to stay away from. Any advice? Thanks.

rent an apartment

Are you saying the graduate housing at UF isn’t any good? I was hoping to live on campus so I could just walk or ride my bike to class.

The housing for graduate students likely will be on the outskirts of campus anyway, where you would need to ride a bus or bike (the campus is very spread-out). You can find plenty of apartments just off campus that are within walking or biking distance to campus. You’ll get much more bang for your buck and probably have a more comfortable situation in an off-campus apartment.

I was able to get a studio for less than $750 per month. If you want to have a room mate you will pay less than they since the rent would be divided accordingly.

Hello Isaac2,

I am also starting in the fall for Engineering as well. Are you doing MS or PhD?. I am getting my MSEE.

Corry, Diamond and Tanglewood Villages are quite old, but apparently well maintained units. Plus ~$550 for a 1/1 with water and basic cable is hard to beat. The apartments are quite large for the price at about 530 sq. feet for Diamond and Corry and 770 sq. feet for Tanglewood.

I am thinking of the Continuum too, the studios are at $760 for only 416 sq. feet, but they are all-inclusive PLUS furnished so they might work better for me since I live in Orlando,Fl and I intend to come home every other weekend or so.

Don’t worry to much about being close to where your classes are going to be held. Public transportation in Gainesville is fantastic and the majority of students ride the bus to get around (we get unlimited rides every semester)

I’m a graduate student with a townhouse just a short walk from campus and I’m looking to rent out a room for ~$500. Message me for details if interested.

Consider private housing. Maybe be able to find better accommodations for less. Probably just as close.
