Is anyone who get admitted not going to attend?

I won’t be going. I’ve got Cambridge, Stanford and am waiting for the Ivies on Friday…
One more spot open for the waitlisted :)

rebeldesigns, Stanford’s “choices” are usually very different from the ivys. They really can’t be compared. and honestly, no school can really be compared with another since all admission decisions are independent. good luck! it’s not completely hopeless til april 1st!

DREWALL I am in the same position as you!! I LOVE Duke and hope the wait-list works out. Did you read the FAQ?? It was so helpful and definitely gave me hope. There are about 1000 people on the wait-list and they said they have taken from 1-200 in the past. What really worries me is FA. I’ve always felt like they take kids with morey off esp if they are already giving out a lot of financial aid. I really hope this is not the case, though.

This is something I’ll never understand about the good ol’ parents. Luckily, my parents didn’t force me to go Ivy. They’re old and lack as much school spirit and sports lol.

If this really is the biggest problem, let them know that Duke does just as well (if not better) than a non-HYP Ivy. Show them.

@collegehappy - Thank you for the good luck wishes! And I’m not too upset about the whole Stanford thing, I liked it more for location than anything else. It’s a great school but so are lots of other schools out there  April 1st can’t come fast enough, though!

@eatsalot - Haha yeah, my parents (more my mom than my dad) are the opposite. They’re the type that are like “we want you to choose, but it’s our decision.” Duke is an amazing institution and I got that feeling the instant I arrived on campus, the one that made me know. That feeling hasn’t been replicated anywhere else thus far! I plan on going through my info packet with the 'rents when it arrives to prove that it’s the place I should be.

I absolutely love Duke and it’s been my dream school for a long time, but I got a full ride to NC State and won’t get any financial aid from Duke.

I got in, but I’ll be going to UNC Chapel Hill.

…I suppose I’ll save Duke (or Harvard) for graduate school.

^My thinking as well.

Is anyone actually planning on going to Duke? This thread makes it appear that Duke is ****

@andy_college09. I plan on going to Duke if I’m admitted off the waitlist!!! Lol

Go to Blue Devil Days.

Umm…the admit rate is suppoed to be 14.8% right? The letter says 26,000 people applied for 1700 spaces or something like that…that would be around a 6% admit rate then yes???

“Is anyone actually planning on going to Duke?”

I got into Duke, Stanford, and Uchicago, and was waitlisted at WashU, Emory and Northwestern…right now I’m leaning towards Duke.

Btw, it seems like the purpose of this thread is to give hope to those who were waitlisted, at least that’s the jist I got, so most people who were accepted to Duke and plan on going probably wouldn’t feel like commenting or even clicking on this thread.

I’m probably not unless I get some sort of merit-based scholarship.

No. There are 1700 people that end up matriculating, but Duke accepted more than that. They accepted 3974 if you include ED and RD out of 26,770 for a 14.8% acceptance rate. Thus, they expect a yield of 43% to get to a class of 1705.

Haha when I saw this thread I was like “??? Why wouldn’t you want to come here??” But then I saw it’s purpose for WL students… lols

“But then I saw it’s purpose for WL students…”

exactly…this thread is for all the waitlisted students who want to get off the waitlist…

And the acceptance rate for RD is actually 13.6% or something crazy like that.

Waitlists suck, I was waitlisted too and I think the worst part of this is the wait!!

After browsing the decision threads and reading the disappointment of such qualified applicants., it seems rather sad that there is such a number of students that had no intention of accepting. There are probably a number of applicants that would have given just about anything to be accepted and now have been rejected or waitlisted by students that put their application forward on a whim…rather sad

It may be sad, but that’s life. It’s not like the accepted students were less qualified than the WLees. Anyway. I am going to wait for my April 1 decisions to decide. Duke is definitely one of my top 3 choices, but it is pricey w/no FA, and I’ve gotten a $20k/yr merit scholarship from Rice so that’s pretty enticing right now.
