Is AP Art History a good class?

AP Art History is offered at my school, but I'm not sure if it is right for me. I like art in general, but I suck at making art xP This would be the first AP class I'm taking, and I wonder if it would be okay for a 10th grader. Thanks :D

I believe that AP art history is so demanding that it’d be a significant challenge for a 10th grader. While making art isn’t required, this class requires a lot of reading about different cultures and learning about their artwork. That said, this class would be phenomenal to anyone who appreciates art like you do.

You might try this – take a look at this blog that explores famous paintings, and see if you’re intrigued. It has many articles about some of the most famous painters in Western art history.

I took two APs as a freshman- Biology (which is considered to be more towards the difficult spectrum here) and Human Geo (which was just a bunch of busy work). This year as a sophomore, I’m taking WHAP along with AP Art History. WHAP is notoriously one of the most difficult and complained about AP here, but APAH makes WHAP look like a joke.

It’s really a lot of work. I’m super stubborn though, so I’ll never drop and work my butt off to get a 5, but if you haven’t taken any APs yet, I’d suggest you either wait until you HAVE taken some APs to get the practice, or be really determined walking into the class. I have a friend in the class who hasn’t taken any APs, and she’s surviving, but it’s not easy. Definitely not any sort of joke class.

Good luck, and feel free to ask me any more questions! =)

@Almondjoy7 I switched my high school plan around a little so I wouldn’t take any APs until my junior year  I’ll be taking AP Art History in my senior year. At my school, freshman can take AP Human Geo, but my friends convinced me not to (sort of wish I chose it now, though). But in the end I’ll have about 10 AP classes, so I’m more than happy with that :D
