I'm gonna be a senior within a week. My school starts next week and I have signed up for AP Computer Science.
Is it hard? I know class varies from one to another, but what about the AP exam in general? Is it a hard exam?
Just to give you guys some of my background:
I'm a math-and-science type of person. I took AP Chem, AP Physics B, and PreCalc honor my junior year. I got a 4 on AP Chem and a 5 on AP Physics B. I'm taking AP Calc BC, AP English Literature, AP Spanish Language, AP Environmental Science, and AP Economics (both macro and micro). I have NO prior knowledge of computer or programming whatsoever. My school doesn't have a prerequisite for taking AP Computer Science, so I've decided to give it a shot.
Do you think I'm going to get screwed if I don't have any background knowledge of computer or programming whatsoever? I'm thinking about double major in engineering and finance when I go to college. And I'm thinking about majoring in computer or software engineering. So I want to take AP Computer Science to see if I really wanna do it. By the way, I have no prior knowledge of physics before I took AP Physics B, but I really love physics and tried really hard during the school year, so I ended up getting a 5 on the AP exam despite the fact that this was my first year of physics. Is AP Computer Science similar to AP Physics, where you can still manage the course materials even though you have no background knowledge whatsoever?

Yeah, physics B is far easier to pick up with no knowledge than comp sci is. The comp sci exam is not too bad, and the class at least from CB is designed for people with no programming experience. I would probably buy the barrons book, read a little bit. Understand it. It’s not too bad at all. If you’re interested in it, it’s quite cool. Do the assignments your teacher gives. And that class should be easily manageable. AP comp sci is definitely not the hardest AP’s, like Chem/bio/physics, but it’s actually useful.

Getting a 5 requires a good knowledge of java and the ap subset. Barrons book + a good teacher should ensure success in the class regardless of your inteligence.
