Is AP World History difficult?

Hi everyone, since I’m taking AP world this year, I want to know what everyone thinks of it. I just want to know people’s personal experiences with the class. Thanks

I had the easiest teacher at the school so it wasn’t bad for me. However, the 2 other teachers at the school had a reputations for being really difficult, so it depends on the teachers you get.

WHAP was the best class I’ve ever taken, imo. At my school, there’s only one teacher who teaches it, but he’s incredible and made the class really interesting and exciting. You’re definitely gonna be pushed, but it’s very manageable. I remember getting about 10 pages or so per night to read and the occasional worksheet. We didn’t get too many essays-- just about 3 or 4 total-- and since they were modeled after the AP test essays, they were short and pretty easy. The bulk of the grades came through dates quizzes, geography quizzes, and unit tests. But the content of the class is so fascinating; no other course gives you an ~8,000 year scope of knowledge. You’ll really enjoy it if you like history

Yeah I took it in 10th grade and had to read 100 pages every week and I still just ended up with a B! Though it is a lot easier than APUSH, don’t get me started with APUSH…

It mostly depends on your teacher, but exam-wise, it can be pretty challenging if you’re not very good at writing, since you’ll have to write three timed essays. The information itself can be a bit overwhelming too since you’re learning the entire history of the world, but if you understand major themes and the big picture, you should be able to do well on the exam.

Overall though it’s a very interesting class, at least for me. At first I only took the class because it looked good in my transcript and now I’m very proud I took it because it helped me realize how much I love world history! If you’re a history junkie you’ll love the class.

APWH was terrible freshman year. The teacher could not deliver a coherent lesson and assigned useless outlines. Ended up with a 91 unweighted (A-).

APWH was wonderful sophomore year and the best class I have ever taken. The teacher for that class only gave one homework assignment per week but her assignments were useful. Ended up with a 98 unweighted (A+).

The major difference was that my freshman year teacher assigned textbook outlines–which apparently almost all AP history teachers do–and my sophomore year teacher never did. Textbook outlines are the bane of my existence. Beware.

It depends on the person. I did well with APWH (managed over a 95 average all year and scored a 5 on the AP) but then some of my classmates struggled. In order to succeed you really need to put the work in - so do the readings and the homework / review assignments. Also, as some others have mentioned, writing is an important component of the exam and most likely the class as well, so if writing isn’t your strong suit it may be difficult.

I’m not a history person at all and trudged through the class (I think I ended up with a 95 or 96), but the AP exam itself is very, very easy.
