Is applying to Film Production (TFT) a terrible waste of time and money?

Stats;
4.34 w gpa
act 34

Less than 1 out of 90 get accepted to film prod. With these odds why should I even bother? Wouldn’t it be smarter to apply to UCLA letters & science with about 35% chance of acceptance and get an internship in the industry while at UCLA?

Also UCLA won’t even look at my film production work. Film schools like Chapman, USC, NYU etc., require the submission of a short film as a part of the application. UCLA is too concerned with having the “highest” number of applicants instead of requiring a five minute film. So it’s just another essay writing contest with about 1% chance of “winning”.

No thanks! I’m going to pass on it. Good luck to all the creative essay writers who are plan on applying.

Don’t get your hopes up, and if you have the stats apply undeclared and improve your acceptance chances by 3500%.

I know I probably wouldn’t get in, but I applied anyway because why not. I know my creative writing sample was probably one of the best I’ve written. It was about a girl who’s best friend left and her living with an abusive mother. Her depression returns & she finds a way out through love. I just took it from a book I was writing on Wattpad.

Idk I only submitted a portfolio to chapman and UCLA. I applied to those two, LMU, DePaul, & USC for business with emphasis in cinematic arts. I wish I applied to more though. Idk if I’ll get into anymore than just DePaul. My #1 is LMU.

Oh my stats were ACT: 25 & since I applied with junior year grades it was a 3.544 weighted so I’m WAY under.

Congrats to all the newly accepted TFT students. I would love to hear stats and comments from the brave ones who applied to the most selective school in the world and didn’t make it in. Did you apply anywhere else? Would you have done it all over again and if so what would you change, if anything?

My d was admitted as a film production major yesterday! She did not have an interview, so we were completely shocked! Her stats are :
4.6 gpa
35 act
Multiple film awards and recognition
We were very reluctant to apply to tft, knowing that if she didn’t get in, she would lose her chance to go to UCLA under a different major. Thank God it worked out!!

Wow that’s amazing, your doughter is amazing, congratulations!!!

I heard they stopped interviewing freshman this year, but I am not 100% sure. Can someone confirm this?

I’m applying as a freshman and I was interviewed back in february, and in the email that they sent me they gave me a list of available dates to interview… the only days they listed were the 24th and 25th of February, so i think those may be the only days?

@elise22199 thanks for the update that’s good to know, and good luck to you!
