Is Band an academic class?

<p>For my columbia supplement, it says "Please tell us what academic class has been your favorite and why". Can I talk about band (I get a grade on my transcript for band in my school, so does that classify?) Thanks</p>

<p>Band, theater, choir, and visual art are all usually considered the arts. Academic classes would be maths, sciences, humanities, etc.</p>

<p>I get a grade on my transcript for Art and Yearbook but they still aren’t academic classes.</p>

<p>Colleges can vary somewhat in what they consider academic classes, but in general, here is the CA definition (from the Teacher Evaluation form):</p>

<p>As stePabs says, getting a grade does not mean a course is an academic subject.</p>
