The National Merit Scholarship Corporation asks my kid to name 2 colleges of choice by May 28 so that they can forward PSAT score and other info. I am confused by this. How useful is this free College Plan Reporting Service? Don't the colleges already know about this info and send a lot of mail and brochures to students after they took the PSAT?

This is really not that useful from our experience. A lot of schools that care about a student's PSAT scores already know about your child's excellent score and will send over tons of materials.

If there are any schools on his list that are big on "demonstrated interest", send the scores to those. It does not really matter otherwise.

By all means, name two schools...but don't lose sleep over it.

The mail will come no matter what.

My son selected two schools. My husband, who was a NM scholar, does not remember this program, but it does not cost anything but two minutes on the computer! Go for it!
