Is Cornell interested?

so about a week ago, my college counselor got a call from Cornell asking for my first quarter grades. I was out of school for a month due to mental health issues so the school policy is if you’re absent for over 20 days they have to grade you P/F (pass/fail) for the semester. My cc explained this to them and they asked why I was gone, and my cc told them I was out for health issues and couldn’t disclose any more than that, but they could call me and talk to me about it if they wanted to. They said they would. does this mean they’re interested in me? I’m pretty surprised to be honest. My cumulative is a 3.6, but I do have an ascending gpa, and got a 3.9 junior year. Could they be considering that? I applied ED to CALS, which I’ve heard is easier to get into. I’m a girl, I did crew for 3 years, a member of Nhs, do horseback riding, play piano, co-president of art club, won awards (one from Columbia), 31 ACT, and I know my essays were killer (passionate and different, all that liberal jazz) They haven’t called yet, but does them reaching out to me suggest interest? Do I have a shot of getting in? I was expecting flat out denial, but now I’m hoping they’re considering me as an individual instead of just my grades.
I’m doing pre-vet and majoring in bio, btw
Also…are they gonna lose interest in me if I tell them the truth about why I was gone?

I think they ask for them from all. With a 3.6 I don’t think you’d be flat out denied:)

Did you apply to cornell? It could be a sign of interest or it could be just them inquiring about what happened to you. You do have a shot, but it would be on the lower side considering that Cornell accepts the top student from around the world with mostly perfect GPA’S. Good luck!

Thank you, but they’re not asking for my grades. They’re asking why I was out of school for a month. I feel like that’s pretty specific and personal

@Halfpass1701 I don’t know how you picked that up as a sign of interest… this is literally like a college calling your counselor saying why you have something on your permanent record or why you’re going to fail a class. They’re seeing that on the off chance they DO have to admit you, your grades will be good enough to the point of no rescind.

I take it as a sign of interest because they could have just taken one look at my gpa and rejected me. Why bother digging further if they aren’t interested? It’s unecessary, or at least that’s what I think. Maybe you’re 100% right and I’m just a confused dreamer, but who cares. We can’t be certain of anything anymore when it comes to this process.

Hmmmm… maybe ask them why they are curious during the phone call if possible? I’m reallly intrigued

I was out of school for a month due to mental illness-related problems and am somewhat curious if I should state the reason or not.

What this means is that the admissions committee is making decisions now. Your application still probably hasn’t been processed because of some missing info. So the admissions office called your guidance counselor to find out what is going on.

It means you probably passed the first cut. If you weren’t a competitive candidate, they wouldn’t bother to get this extra info from your GC. However it means that your app will find its destiny during committee deliberations. Still some hope.

Best of luck
