Hello!! I am an admitted LSA transfer student. I am interested in computer science and applied mathematics. I wonder if course registration is competitive at Umich. I have also noticed that there are several orientation dates for transfer students. I wonder when do you guys register for your courses?
I am coming from a liberal arts college where every undergraduate follow the same curriculum. So I really don’t have much idea about the general undergraduate experience at a large research university. Any advice is indeed appreciated!

At your orientation you meet with your advisor and pick your classes. If you have a choice I would pick the earliest session possible to have the chance to get the classes you want /need. You should though start reviewing your curriculum or at least classes now,so you can see what interests you. I would advise maybe calling Monday and speaking to an advisor just to give you a headstart on what you should be even looking at. You should know what classes transferred and which didn’t by now and that might give you a clue about what courses to take next. Just go online and pursue the curriculums.
Also, understand that you shouldn’t shy away from going on class waitlists. Show up for the first week and in most cases you’ll be admitted to the class.
