My freshman friend just recently took the SAT and got 1560. Its not good right? or is it pretty ok for a freshman.

Old or new? Old: YES. New: NO!

...but for a freshman I guess it's not too bad. Why would he take it as a freshman?!?!

for this site, it'd be below average even for a freshman, but nationwide it is just above the average for everyone. though, being average won't get you into anywhere special. To put it in perspective, a 1560 is 520 per section. he or she will naturally improve, so right now it's not that big of a deal.

lets see...a freshman taking the SAT for fun and getting a 1560....dats pretty good for a freshman. I'd expect a huge increse if he was only a freshman and did as good as the "normal" high schooler. I'd say he did pretty good. I mean...i bet he didnt even take Algebra 2. Tell him to take some classes and he would do excellent on the SAT

Wow. That's horrible. Sorry to be so mean, but I'm 13 and I got a 2130.

kilini, chill, i got a 1050 in 8th grade on the old sat adn in junior year i got a 1520 (old sat). you're test takign skills mature a lot over 10th grade (especially math)

Thats horrible? Who freaking cares what people get on their SATs... they dont prove anything.. at all... You guys that tell everyone how bad they do have major self-esteem issues

I took Johns Hopkins CTY last year (8th) and got a 1200. I took it this year (freshman)....today!

Kilini ...i duno man. but i think 1560 for a guy who just entered high school is pretty dam good. well dats my opinion. yea...good point..1560 isnt something dats good. 1337noh4k4...i guess ur friend needs a ton of SAT Prep now

oo isee....bump anyways...just wondering what he can do to improve his chances. I suggested to him to get ther Collegeboard's practice test they had at Border's. Anything else?

1337, I'm an incoming sophomore too, and I just took the test today. Tell him not to worry about it--I only took it kinda for practice--we've still got 3 years to improve.

I'd be kinda worried... Scores don't always improve over time. I remember I got a 1290 (old SAT) when I was thirteen-- which is still pretty darn good-- but four, long school years later, I only raised it to a 1330 (New SAT, just adding M+CR for a comparable score). That's only a ten point improvement per year. :-S

Then again, maybe I was having an off day. My PSAT scores predicted me in the 1400s range (again, using old SAT model) . But I'm not wasting another forty bucks to find out. Not worth it.
