Is ECON-E370 really that hard?

I'm going to be a sophomore at IUB in the fall and I am a business major.

I was wondering whether or not it is worth it for me to be spending $800+ to take ECON-E270 during Summer Session 2 at IUPUI. I heard that ECON-E370 was extremely difficult at IU Bloomington, so that is why I wanted to take it at IUPUI. However, due to some financial troubles I'm having second thoughts. I have room in my schedule to take it my Spring semester, and it would be free since I have a full scholarship for IUB. But then again, if it really is as hard as everyone says it wouldn't be worth it for me to take it at IUB and fail, only to have to retake it the consequent summer.

So in the end, should I take it IUPUI for $800 or IUB for free? Also, I know there are many alternate classes at IUB to replace E370 but are they as useful knowledge-wise? Please help me! Thank you!

Alexiel, factor in the cost of textbooks and it is not so expensive at IUPUI. $250 this summer for Camp’s textbooks for E370 versus no textbook required for Towfighi’s E270 classes that start the end of June at IUPUI and still have openings. E370 has roughly fifty class meetings per semester and group work; most semesters at IUPUI summer you will meet either 12 or 18 times with no group work. That’s at least fifty trips to Wylie Hall the semester you take it. This summer is 18 meetings at IUPUI. My son has full scholarship too but the $800 is well spent for E270. Less stress during the IUB semesters is worth something too. Son has two friends in his dorm from Indy that took E270 last summer and loved it. The IUPUI grade counts in IUB gpa, so that is a probable bonus, too.

You can take something easy that will add to your gpa in Spring semester of sophomore year. Or take a 300-level Kelley class like G345, which applies to the finance and BEPP degrees. BUS G345 (or ECON E305) is one of the few upper level Kelley classes that apply to the finance major that you can take before taking Icore (you need to have taken microecon and macroecon before taking it, though).

All,

There were 107 students (~30%) getting A/A- from E370.
The Honor version of E370 or S370 had about 60% of the students getting A/A-.
There were (~20%) of the students getting A/A- from A100.
There were (~15%) of the students getting A/A- from C341 (Organic Chemistry)

I do not think that CHEM department at IUB would allow substitution for C341. Wouldn’t you say that Kelley students are pretty lucky? Nonetheless, the total costs do add up if one plans to take a number of courses at another campus.
