Is Economics a Good Major out the gate?

Ok so I am a Business Administration right now. In order for me to have a better chance of making it into my #1 (UC Berkeley) I am switching to Economics, which also interest me and is similar to BA. But what i want to know is it a good major to have? Are there jobs to be had out the gate and do they pay good? Would a degree from UC Berkeley in Economics be impressive or are there better economics schools? I would think Berkeley is near the top.

You will be fine with either of those as your major from Berkeley but I am an economics major and I will tell you, in my experience, economics has helped me think differently about all aspects of business. It helps you to understand how the world is interconnected and how one tax affects the rest of America and even the world in some cases. A BA might make your skills more applicable but an economics degree will help you further down the road and long term wise. You can’t go to economics grad school very easily with a BA either. As far as jobs goes:

To somewhat mimic what IllHaveAnother93 said. My experience was that my business classes taught me how to do stuff. My economics classes taught me how to think.
