what DONT you like about Emory?

for current students and those of you who have visited Emory, are there any huge CONS or things you don't like about the school?

Also, how is Emory for finance/economics?

No football team ... no real school spirit

No school spirit + football team, ohioguy said it. I mean, it might have been better if I could at least go and watch Michael Vick and his Falcons play. But now that he's gone, it just plain sucks. But I knew what I was getting into, so it's fine. I have to warn you though, if you want a big state school-like spirit, DO NOT come here.

Emory's finance/economics is great. However, people at the B school will often say that econ majors are for students who can't get in the B school.

"However, people at the B school will often say that econ majors are for students who can't get in the B school"

oh thats where they go? i thought they were sent to imagination land with all the other imaginary people. 'people who can't get in the B school' ~LMAO! thats too funny.

i wouldnt say the econ is for ppl that cant get into the bschool. It isnt that hard to get in the Bschool....I think the bschool is more for people who want to go directly into the working world.. a lot of people in the econ department go to law school...BACK To the original question.

There is nothing to do within walking distance of emory's campus!

According to my daughter, food at the DUC sucks.

One way to avoid putting on the pounds at school...

how prevalent is greek life?

I always hear from friends at Emory about the "JAP Culture" and the general absence of things to do. I also hear that people are not very good looking, as superficial as that sounds.

Every time I have been to Emory, I have enjoyed it. Its definitely not a state school, but that may be a good thing.

There are japs at Emory, but they don't take over unless you want them too. I have plenty of jappy friends they are okay for like 30 minutes a week. There is a general absence of things to do on campus but you won't become aware of this until your sophomore year... then you can venture into Atlanta which has plenty of interesting things to do. Emory is a top 20 school, the people here are not the best looking, there are some hot girls.

yeah when i visited i saw plenty of hot girls. then again, i come from a school with a dearth of attractive people, so i may have a skewed perspective...actually, i definitely do.

I visited Emory twice last year. The campus is very nice. The food actually was pretty good, and I'm a picky eater. It looks like the Greek life at Emory is fairly active. There is a long row of fraternity and sorority houses.

The one thing I wasn’t crazy about. Although Emory is in Atlanta, it can be a hassle to get around without a car. They are kind of out of the way. They said it’s not too bad because most likely you will have friends with cars. But it’s about a 15 minute bus ride to get to the subway to get into downtown Atlanta.

And if I remember correctly Emory doesn't even have a direct shuttle service to MARTA. Waiting for the MARTA buses always sucks, and you have to pay.

The girls aren't hott, what??? But its Georgia so one could always go to UG for a variety of hott girls. I'm guessing thats probably correct?

i'm a freshman at emory, and there is only one thing i dont like about emory. honestly.
there is a certain ethnic group that ALWAYS flocks together and never speaks english, except to professors. You never see this ethnicity interacting with ANYONE else. ever.

so, what exactly is that ethnicity, ohman442?

ohman442....THAT IS NOT TRUE. I have lots of friends from different ethnicities, and i feel the majority of people interact with each other. There are some groups that stick together, but overall its pretty mixed up.

I'd guess that he's referring to the Koreans. I couldn't speak to how prevalent what he's saying is. I definitely saw what he's talking about during my four years at Emory, but I can't make a generalization about it.
