Hey everyone. I'm a Communications Studies major and I'm in a bit of a pickle. Basically, I'm trying to decide if its worth it to put in the extra effort for a marketing minor (this will also put me well above the units required for graduation at about 133 or so). I'm about two classes away from completing the minor, but if I didn't go for it, I would be able to graduate after summer. If I do finish up the minor, I will need to attend school in the fall as well. Is it worth it for me to go for it? Or should I drop the minor and just graduate.

It is absolutely not worth it unless you want to stay in school longer. Hopefully you already took the interesting marketing classes and hopefully you didn’t take any classes like Marketing Research (blah).

So…I should just ditch the major and graduate? The classes I have left ARE just the higher level ones. Don’t need to take market research but DO need to take, “Consumer Behavior”.

Minors generally aren’t that important. I can’t imagine that it’s going to help you in your job search that much. However, if you want to take the classes, I certainly see no issue in staying in school longer (especially with the economy as it is). You would certainly have plenty of time to job hunt while going to school part-time.

Consumer Behavior is one of the more interesting classes, IMO.

We have no idea unless we know the context. Are you in line for the jobs you want now? Are grads in your major, at your school, getting good jobs now? What kinds of jobs are you after? Is marketing a well respected major at your school?

I go to Cal State Northridge. While its not known as an elite college, it does have a respected marketing program. I just thought it would be good to have a minor to go along with “Comm Studies”. Basically, my fiancee lives in Japan, and if I graduate early, I’ll be able to go back there in August…rather then December.

But I want to make sure I’m not throwing away an ample opportunity first…

Minors aren’t worth the effort you put into them. Go to Japan and work on something there, it will be more worth your time.

I only have two classes left. It seriously won’t make any difference at all?
