Is fafsa-application.com going to steal my SSN?

OMG, i am so worried!!!! i know i am careless and stupid that i provide all my information including MY parents and my SSN and my father's credit card # to this fake fafsa website, fafsa-application.com. i googled and found that this site just exist for only 1-2 year. so i didnot get much information about the legitimacy of this website and dont know if it will steal SSN and credit card # or not. can anybody tell is it going to steal my SSN and credit card #? is there anything i can do to prevent they to use my SSN and credit card #? i already contacted the company and the customer service said that they will refund the payment. but i am not sure if they really will do that. The most important thing is, will they steal my SSN and credit card #? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

someone please help me!!! i am so worried that i can not sleep!!!

How would we know? There are sites that charge for FAFSA. There is no reason to use them because fafsa.gov is free. But they usually do as promised and process your fafsa. This one looks legitimate because they tell you twice right on the front page the address you can use to file for free. But anytime you give personal info to a website you have no idea of the security. Tell your father to keep an eye on his credit card charges and report anything suspicious immediately. But if they will give a refund then fine. Just go file your FAFSA the free way on a .gov website.

We don’t know. ANYTIME you give ANYONE, ANY company your fin info, your ssn, you run that risk. So yes, it can happen. But you know, i bought a lousy $30 of stuff from Target before Christmas and charged it, and now my info is compromised because of what happened on a huge scale with that store. So, every time you use your ATM card, your credit card, any of those things, yes, it’s a risk. Heck, I sort of knew the guy in the fin aid office at one school who was processing the verification for my son’s Direct Loan and my PLUS. Didn’t make me feel good at all that he had my friggin’ tax return in hand as well as all of that fin info, and SSNs. That’s the way it works my friend.

the company is not even accredit by the best business bureau! OMG, i am so worried they might steal my SSN and credit card information for illegal use. i filed a complaint on the best business Bureau. right now i am waiting for their reply.

Yes, you are at risk. I wouldn’t wait holding my breath for BB response. A lot of companies get complaints filed. What did they do that was illegal, fraudulent? You were the foolish ones, not them. So i don’t even think you have a case. I would dismiss it in an instant if it were my call, and I don’t like the way the company is set up so that people accidently use them. But that’s not against the law. Some people do want to go that route and do so deliberately. Right now, the chances are better that you get in trouble for having shopped at Target with a credit than having given the info to that website I haven’t heard peep about them using the info fraudulently and they’ve been around for a while. They are legitimate, though I don’t like how they get foolish, careless people like you to accidently use them. YOU made the mistake. They haven’t done anything wrong. They provide a valid service that some people want.

I used them last year and this year. Its nice to have all your information filled out except for what needs updated after the first year, and to get reminders of you deadlines. I don’t know what you are worried about, it says right on their website what they do. It also sounds like you used them, then asked for a refund, you should be happy they didn’t charge you after they already did exactly what you asked them to do. Why would you give your information to a company, then ask if they are going to steal it!

Hey so the same exact thing just happened to me. I feel like a dumbass but most importantly I’M FREAKING OUT. What happened in the end? Did they scam you or was everything normal??? PLEASE answer ASAP

I did the same thing!!! ahh. what happened??

I did the same thing!! It looked very legit and everything W T F. Is it a scam or not???

OKAY, don’t know if this helps or not but: http://www.scamadviser.com/check-website/fafsa-application.com

AND this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk5eqrrv85g

Hope that helps. It’s kind of eased my mind.

It’s a scam, the first F in FAFSA stands for free. Given your links you now know to go to https://fafsa.ed.gov/

I hope you didn’t pay for it but I think any information you entered will be ok.

^ Exactly.
My D’s HS host this financial aid meeting every year and the first thing they said is DO NOT use any website other than FAFSA.gov for submission.
