I got a letter from Calgrant saying they'll pay 8,000. Is that per year or what? And is that the same as my FAFSA or can I expect another letter from FAFSA with more money? My family only makes 50k a year and my school is 25,000 a year. And online it said my school gets students $15,000 financial aid packages on average. The 8,000 is far short from that 15,000 I was kind of expecting. So is there more coming or what?

You don’t get any sort of letter from FAFSA. FAFSA just calculates the EFC which is sent to schools and the schools use it to calculate your eligibility for financial aid (federal, state in some case, and institutional unless they also require CSS). Any aid offers will come from your schools. These will include any federal aid you are eligible for.

The Cal Grant comes as a result of submitting a FAFSA and a GPA verification form. Cal Grants are only for California, so they are two separate things.

For the FAFSA, you get a student aid report (SAR). The SAR gets sent to schools you entered as a part of the FAFSA. The schools could either ask you to submit additional documents for verification or send you an award letter. Sometimes you can go to your school’s financial aid office website for a web version of this letter.

The best thing to do is contact the school you are planning to attend.

Oh ok thank your for the information guys.
