I'm attending Tulane University in the fall and was wondering if the orientation was mandatory? What do they do during this time. I've checked out the campus and spent some time in New Orleans so I have a good feel for the school, but I definitely don't want to miss it if I need to sign up for classes or has a real impact on college. So, is it worth going?

It is definitely not mandatory. If you know a lot about the school already, are OK signing up a little later for classes than you would if you went to orientation, and if your parents either are comfortable with what they know about the school or don’t care to know more first-hand, then you can skip it without any consequence. The other reason to go is to try and find a roommate, but there are ways to do that online.

And they reserve classes for those who can’t go to the orientation too! :)
