Is Freshman PSAT a good predictor of SAT?

<p>I'm a freshman and I just got back my PSAT scores. They were pretty good- I got a 76 in CR, 71 in Math, and 70 in Writing. </p>

<p>So, the question is, do PSAT scores really correlate to SAT scores? Does the 71 in math really mean that if I took the SAT now I'd get a 710? I'm just surprised because, while I'm in a higher-level math class than most of the freshmen, I'm not in the highest level one you can take as a freshman. (In Georgia it's this weird curriculum where instead of Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, etc, we have Math I, Math II, Math III, and Math IV- I'm in Math II, two freshmen are in Accelerated Math II.) I've never been considered the best at math, but I got a higher score than the four guys in my grade who are really, really good at math. </p>

<p>Are the questions on the PSAT easier than the ones on the SAT? Did I just get really, really lucky with the math section?</p>

<p>ABSOLUTELY NOT.</p>

<p>I got a 181 freshman year on the PSAT (sorry, don’t remember specifics), and I got a 2310 on the only SAT that I took (750 math 760 cr 800 writing).</p>

<p>Honestly PSAT, ERB, ect are a load of crap and a waste of time</p>

<p>^thats not to say you’re going to see drastic improvement, too though. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t really put any importance into how you perform on tests like that because they’re utterly irrelevant (you should be able to gauge how smart you are without a pre-test to the test)</p>

<p>No way! Freshman year I got a 121 on my PSAT… that’s right a 121… this year (Junior year) i took it and got a 180. Im sure now after a few months of prep I am up to at least a 190. In a few months of prep, or just strait up practice you will improve so much. Besides, your scores are awesome for a freshman.</p>

<p>The OP is asking if success, not the lack thereof, on the PSAT is a good indicator for the SAT.</p>

<p>I would say yes.</p>

<p>But it would be silly of the OP to take the SAT now. He/She should wait till end soph. but preferably junior year, once math skills are enhanced with higher level material and CR/writing improves with more English education.</p>
