Is getting an internship as a junior too late?

I am taking 2 courses this summer as a freshman. I quit on getting an internship because it was futile and I wasn't ready.

I will try to get an internship my soph summer.

If I don't get an internship in my soph, how am I shaping up? I plan on joining 2 finance clubs and also having a good gpa (3.5). I have a 1400 SAT score and a very strong interest in finance and have a few other finance ec's.

I will also try to transfer to a target such as Stern prior to junior yr from baruch honors program. I know that sophomores do better in terms of banks wanting to hire them but is the chances still low to get an internship compared to junior and senior yr kids?

Very few kids get internships in IB before their junior year-a lot of the ones that do are minorities. Coming from a non-target doesn’t help either. But try to get an internship in something else related to finance. BTW, I don’t know if you think that your 1400 SAT score will be a plus, but it won’t be. Get the GPA up too if you can.

You need to get involved now. Don’t wait until sophomore year. Get into those finance clubs now and look for clubs that you could get leadership in (doesn’t have to be finance). With the lack of participation in things like that, you definitely can’t get one sophomore year.

From what I understand, it’s extremely rare to be even given an opportunity to interview for an internship before the junior year. So if you get in as a junior, you’re on schedule.

You might have a shot at a boutique before junior year. The chances get better if you do it unpaid too.

There’s no way you’re getting an internship with a 3.5 from a non-target in IB without a connection, that simple.

People with 4.0’s from Harvard/Wharton are scrambling for unpaid positions, so you’re going to have to do a lot more to improve that resume.
