Sophmore Internships

Are there any investment banking divisions known for recruiting exceptional sophmores (high gpa, good leadership positions already, etc.)? Or do sophmores who get banking internships almost only get them through networking?

Almost all BB’s will hire a small amount of sophomores from targets with great GPA’s. You just need to drop your resume at OCR. However, these are very, very hard to get.

If you do not attend a target your best bet is networking like crazy.

My son is a sophomore at a non-target school. He is looking at some corporate summer internships in finance and accounting for this summer since there do not appear to be many for non-targets in IB for sophomores.

He is planning on going abroad second semester junior year. Does the fact that he won’t be around to interview during second semester mean that he won’t be seriously considered for an IB summer internship for after junior year?

There is an accelerated recruiting process for people like your son who will not be on campus for their spring semester. I’m not sure whether or not this process is open to people from non-targets, though. PM bankonbanking. He’ll probably know.
