Is Government a core academic subject?

The college I'm interested in requests recommendations from core academic subjects only, and that the classes fall in two separate categories. At my high school, government and economics are required classes to graduate. Would I be correct in assuming then that these are considered "core" subjects? And if they are core subjects, what classification would they fall under (i.e., science, english, math, history)?

Thank you for your opinions. :)

gov, history and econ are all social studies courses. definitely core.

I agree with the above poster… social studies

Yeah a gov teacher is fine
