Is IB SL Math sufficient for Wharton?

I really want to go to Wharton, and I've always been really good at math. But I'm taking Algebra 2 H as a sophomore with a 99.3%, and everyone tells me that I need pre-calc or at least trig prior to taking HL Math. Further, my counselor heavily advised against taking the classes during the summer due to a lack of thoroughness, perhaps leaving me unprepared for HL Math coursework. SL Math is essentially the equivalent to Calculus AB senior year, although some people say that it's slightly easier. I don't care about getting college credit; I'm just concerned with getting in to Wharton. I realize how competitive it is to get into a school like Wharton, but how much of a disadvantage will I likely be at if I'm only taking SL Math, but have an 800 Math II and have shown promise in all of my math classes?

Also, say I do get into Wharton. Will I be massively destroyed freshman year w/ the equivalent of about a Calculus AB education in maths?

No, you’re not going to be massively destroyed freshman year with the equivalent of Calc AB in maths. Relax. See how it goes - and just keep doing well. It sounds as though you’re on a good track! Many schools don’t even OFFER the equivalent of BC calc and don’t have the IB program. Don’t worry. The ONLY caveat I’d have is that Wharton will likely expect you took the hardest courses available at your school - and in your school it sounds as though that would be HL math. If you’re working to the best of your ability this is probably not an issue - and many kids are in fact accepted without taking every high level course offered. If you’re really concerned about it, you can always ask you GC to put it in perspective in your report.
