Is IB worth it?

I must say. when I signed on for the IB Diploma course, I was not prepared with how demanding it was going to be. My school teachers and the IBO keep saying IB is highly regarded by Admin Offercers and that I will hav a higher chance than students taking AP or A Levels. But they're probably biased.

If anyone here takes/ took the IB program or knows anyone who takes/took the IB program... are all the hard work and non-stop studying and internal assesments really going to give me a higher chance compared to AP and A Level Students?

IB is worth it if you can get top distinction with all that coursework, EE and TOK.

It's especially highly-regarded in overseas schools. If you plan to apply to Oxbridge, etc. Also, research your schools ... some adcoms are more informed than others.

You may not have a HIGHER chance that AP and A Levels, but you will have a great chance. I teach in an IB school, and, yes, the work load is very tough. We have only been teaching the program for one year, so we don't have admissions results as of now, but I do know that the program is the most demanding that our school offers, and that is what the very selective colleges want to see. If you are capable of doing the work, are very motivated to study and actually do it, and you are interested in the courses that your school offers, then you should do it. Frankly, the argument that it is a lot of work does not impress many people. School is hard, life can be hard, and we have to work at achieving the success we want.

Bottom line-- IB is hard, and IB is worth it.

BTW: Colleges really don't compare your SCHOOL'S PROFILE with other SCHOOL PROFILES. They will look at how you did according to your own school's course offerings. So, if your plan is to apply to very selective schools, then do the IB. If you really don't plan on this kind of competition and you may not be this type of student (no judgment whatsoever, you need to know yourself), then don't do it.
