There is a small thread on this. YES, they shut the IRS DRT down apparently.
And now, I am trying to check my son’s 2016-2017 FAFSA, and although they let me see and change his 2017-2018 FAFSA, they say I am not allowed to access last year’s FAFSA!!!
deleted…wrong thread!
drt is down until october 2017 when you be filing the fafsa for 2018-2019…that’s what i’ve read somewhere.
hmm…this is making a financial aid counselor’s job much harder this year…darn computers!!
The IRS DRT system was misused and this led to it being shut down. Not trying to make this political but here is the story.
this statement from the IRS Commissioner in the story.
“IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told Congress this spring that hackers may have exploited the FAFSA website to steal information from up to 100,000 taxpayers — and that identity thieves had used the information to file thousands of fraudulent tax returns.”
DRT is up and I just downloaded a transcript of my 2016 income tax return.
@doublebach great to hear the DRT is up and running…but why would you be uploading your 2016 tax return? That will be used for the 2018-2019 FAFSA, which won’t become available for filing until October 2017.
@kelsmom is the DRT really working again??
And if you verified your 2015 income with the DRT, why would you need a transcript as well?
ITs been back up for at least a month, IIRC
The DRT is down until 2018-2019 FAFSA. This is the message you will see if you go to www.fafsa.ed.gov:
