is it a bad idea to take math 32a during my first quarter as a freshman?

I passed out of 31 a/b after getting 5s on calc ab/bc and was wondering if I should take math 32a.

How difficult is the class? Will it be too challenging for an incoming freshman adjusting to college life? Btw, the professors teaching this fall are Rogawski, Sheehan, and Mess.

My other two classes are probably going to be GEs. (and I'm going to try to pick a couple that are interesting but relatively easy : ] )

you most definitely should take it first quarter to get the whole math series out of the way

the whole math series really isn’t that difficult compared to classes related to your actual major

32a is the most interesting out of the three. the material is certainly easier than 31B material, and may even be easier than 31A. the differentiation in 32A is very basic, but the class as a whole is a bit conceptual.

avoid mess. my friends had a nightmarish time with that guy, as in a mean of 12/40ish on the final.

Isn’t Park the best teacher ?

duke is the best teacher, but he rarely teaches it. hes like at the top of the math dept. plus his class is easy.

edit: oh wow park has great reviews

My friends took this class during their first quarter and they all did really, really well… so I guess it really depends on you and such. But, I would get it out of the way since the 30 series is really long.

Park isn’t slated to teach any classes next year, so I don’t know that he’s necessarily staying at UCLA.

^dang that blows

I want to take my 30 series mostly with him. =[

So… is Rogawski the best on the list then ? Should I take it fall quarter or wait for winter quarter and see if there is a better teacher ?

Winter for 32A is Moschovakis, Radko and Vilenchik. Bulter, Dai, and Vilenchik are teaching it in the Spring.

ThisCouldBeHeavn: Where did u read that?

It’s on the math department website.

Definitely take it fall quarter. It’s not that hard. I took it last year with Schul and thought he was the best math teacher I had all year.

o ok thank you!

ThisCouldBeHeavn, can you link me the site? I want to see it for myself.

Nvm, found it. Is there a list of professors teaching each quarter for every subject/deparment?

so out of all these teachers, who would you say is the best ? rogawski ?

I doubt it. It seems some departments are better about this type of stuff than others.

And if anyone else wants the link
