Due to family problems i will have to move my senior year, i have a GPA of 2.5 but all honors/ap/ib classes and im currently working on getting my ib certificate in literature. Im moving to an out of state high school in Texas, but after the first semester I want to move back to my old high school in California. I am pretty advanced in my areas so im okay. I just want to know if transferring for my second semester of senior year will affect my college applications, i just want to go to community college. So is it a bad idea?

You don’t need a high school diploma to attend CC, a GED will do, so changing high schools should not affect admission.

I do not understand why you would do this. I do understand being a new to the school senior will put you at a disadvantage socially and that you won’t be invested in that school. Also, by being gone first semester from your old school you will miss out on much of the being a senior stuff and lose connections you have. You will have to readjust from one school to another twice.

Your gpa is much more important than taking the high level classes (honors, AP, IB)- if you take those you are expected to do well in them. This affects your college possibilities much more than where you attend school.

Is your wish to return to CA for the final semester based on qualifying for instate tuition in CA? If your parents remain in CA you should still have the CA residency requirements met. Otherwise the entire senior year may be necessary. You need to check with CA on this.
