My son will be a junior in the fall. He has already taken geometry, algebra I and algebra II. He took the PSAT at his high school (for practice) as a freshman and as a sophomore scoring an 1890. Because of his challenging school curriculum and his extracurriculars I was thinking it might be best if he takes the SAT this October. Any advice or opinions on this topic would be greatly appreciated!!

My son is in the same situation and I would like to know too. He is taking his math subject 2 test this saturday and hopefully he can start taking his sat in oct.

I definetly think that he should. I took the SATs in May as a junior, and I wish I had taken them sooner, because now I only have a few more chances to take it again before I have to start applying to colleges.

I agree with jess0990. I took mine in Dec of junior and can't be happier now that I don't have to take them after the summer. If the person does well, good, if not you know what to target and how much work is necessary.

I'm a firm believer in taking it early in Jr year (Oct - Jan) and again in the spring (in June, as May is for SAT subject tests that correspond to AP classes or pre calc) if necessary. However, it depends what the target score is and whether the student is prepared.

My D took the PSAT in Oct, found out her scores in mid-Dec, studied over Christmas break and took the Jan SAT. Her score was high enough to do it only once, but she was prepared for more study and retaking it in June if need be.

Like M0BAIK0 I took the Math2C June of 10th grade after taking trig. Got an 800. Then I took the SAT in the Oct of 11th grade. Got a 2220. I'm now retaking it this Sat. I've been studying for it for the past 2 weeks since my school got off around middle of May (and I didnt have to take any finals b/c I got exempt). I took Chem last May before the AP exam like entomom suggested and got an 800 on Chem.

Like what most people here suggest take it once in the Fall and once in the Spring like me. Also you can sign up for like 6 SATs and just take them for practice and cancel the score like I did. The real SAT practice is the best, esp when you remember the questions and go back on CC to see what you did/didnt know. In fact sign up for an SAT every month and take one as practice and if you feel comfortable submit the score.
