Is it a smart idea for a science major to take an accounting class for fun?

I'm kinda thinking about taking an intro-level accounting class, just because it looks interesting. So will gaining some knowledge of accounting be helpful later in life at all?

Also, will it help if I pursue an MBA degree later, say if I want to get involved in management?

I’m a b-school professor. My take is it is probably not useful nor necessary for real life or MBA. If however you find it INTERESTING (which is hard to believe :)), then you should definitely take it.

hmm so it’s NOT gonna be useful? It’s a class called “Financial Accounting.” When I talked to the teacher she said it’s a language of business but didn’t necessarily say it would be useful. Maybe I should reconsider taking it haha.

Believe it or not, I did enjoy the accounting class I took for fun. I finally learned what all of the accounting words actually mean. And it was nice to take one class that emphasized rote tasks along with my math and CS classes.
