Is it alright to ask to meet with a Dean?

Hey guys,
Well on Friday I sent an email to Dean J (one of the dean of admissions at UVA) asking if it would be possible to meet with her. I've yet to receive a response and am wondering if emailing her was a bad idea. In the email I asked if she wouldn't mind meeting with me to tell me if I'm on the right track and what I could do to help me improve my chances into the school. I know right now is a really busy time at the UVA admissions office (I read the blog) but is there a possibility that she did not respond to me email because what I asked was innapropriate?
Thanks for the help guys

She’s probably incredibly busy dealing with urgent admissions issues , so hasn’t had a chance to respond to your e-mail.

I believe that if you look at U VA’s website and CC’s information and Google, you’ll be able to find out what you need to do to maximize your acceptance chances. You don’t need to ask the busy dean for a personal assessment.

She a Dean not a guidance counselor.
She doesn’t help individual students but makes and administers Admissions policies set by the University.
Why do you think a Dean would entertain chancing a high school student?
You seriously thought emailing her personally is a good idea?
Hope you don’t get blackballed when you do apply.

Blackballed? Wow what are you talking about batllo. Dean’s like to see that students are showing a liking for the school. I told her that UVA is my dream school and that I would do anything to help improve my chances… I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t blackball me. Also I live in NY and told her that I would love to travel to VA to meet with her personally. If I’m going to get blackballed for showing enthusiasm then maybe UVA isn’t the right school for me…

You may not get a response back, just like someone else said she may be very busy. I know the director of admissions at Syracuse and I sent an email more than 5 months ago about an interview and he never responded. I completely understood because after all he is the director.

Thanks for the response. I know the dean at UVA is extremly busy. I don’t mind not receiving an email back I just don’t want her to be mad that I emailed her in the first place.

The adcoms like to know that students have an interest in the school. How you transformed that into a belief that dean’s want to receive email from HS students looking for an edge in admissions is beyond me. Do the words “brown nosing” have any meaning to you?

As for the blacklist, make a strongly negative impression and you may very well persuade the admissions office the college wants nothing to do with you.
