well i emailed adcoms specifically asking about how i could improve my app, and i got a reply saying that the person read my email and sent it to one of the deans, but i hvnt gotten a reply from a dean yet. I sent the email on wednesday. I know UVA must be busy and all, but dont u think they should hv responded soon? will they respond ever??

Hmm, I was thinking of e-mailing them, but based on the response they've given you, I think I should call them...it leaves less chance for doubt.

I emailed them yesterday afternoon and got a response today. I got the email about the deans first, but then a real response...if the deans are regional then maybe yours is just busy/away.

My dad emailed without me knowing!! They emailed back with a good reply.

You've gotta give them time to get back to you via email! They've gotta be fairly overloaded right now.

what did they tell u kathy?

The dean pulled my file and said it was good and wasn't lacking anything. She said that they were more selective this year than in the past few, and she just suggested that I work hard this year and maybe send in another rec/additonal awards, etc.

They said that my classes were very competetive/challenging this year so they said that I should try to do very well in classes. Nothing about SATs, just do well senior year.

"She said that they were more selective this year than in the past few, "

damn. selectivity.

i still hvnt gotten a reply yet. Beth or kathy, who did u email and when did they send u a reply??

Honestly, if everyone emailed the dean of admissions to ask if their app was good, I'm pretty sure the school would stop posting their email address. C'mon people, CONFIDENCE! You will be fine.

My dad got an email the next morning, I'm not sure who he emailed though. I'll find that out for you.

thrills, i emailed undergrad_admission@virginia.edu

Just so you know, all of the Admissions Deans are saying exactly the same thing to everyone who contacts them by phone and/or email. Don't get too caught up in their scripted speech. Here's a plain English translation: You are generally qualified for admission. If you had not been generally qualified for admission, you would have been rejected. Most of the people who applied ED are generally qualified for admission. Being generally qualified for admission or being "close" on ED does not mean that you are likely to be admitted when they review the RD candidates. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. You may or may not get in the Spring. The people they let in on ED had GPAs of 3.8 and higher. They were also in the Top 5% of the Class. I think you should assume that RD applicants with similar credentials will still be favored over candidates with lower GPAs or lower class rank. Focus on your classwork. Work on those grades. You won't be able to change your overall GPA, but you need to show the Admissions Committee that you are doing extremely well in the most challenging classes your school offers. The message you should take away is that on ED all UVA wants to see is a lot of A's in HARD CLASSES. Good luck to all of you and APPLY TO SOME OTHER SCHOOLS. Don't put all your eggs in that Hooville basket. Your life will not end if you don't get admitted to UVa. Remember, there are a lot of great schools where people who are "generally qualified for admission at UVA" can be very, very, very happy.

my plan is what u say merblajam

Im striving to get All A's in all of my classes, they are all IB classes. 7 IB classes, all A's will help!
