Is it bad that my school only has 4 AP courses?

My school has only 4 AP courses which are AP World History, US History, English, and they just added Environmental. AP US is a two year course and that's what I'm taking right now, and I plan to take English. Anyway, is it bad or good that there's a small amount of these classes? Like would it be bad on my transcript if I only took 2 out of the four classes, cause my school has this weird favoritism with putting the same kids in the AP classes and not letting anyone else in. I had to push to get into AP US and I might have to do it again for English.

Well it’s bad in the sense that you won’t get the opportunity to learn more. But hey, there’s always self study. A lot of people self study for APs that aren’t offered at their school.

Is it bad? Not necessarily. My school only has four, but I have taken other AP classes online and have self-studied others.

I keep hearing about self study what is self study? and how can I do it?

^Pick an AP class that you are interested in but your school doesn’t offer, find appropriate text/prep books and begin studying

@ OP, Nope as long as your counselor explains this in his letter. If you take all 4 you take the most rigourous shedual basically. This helps you lol. Our school has like 18? giver or take

i don’t think it is bad, because my school only offered 5, which were english lit and comp, biology, calculus, us history, and environmental…But now this year they offered language and comp for only the juniors right when i become a senior lol… I took only 3 AP’s and that’s considered pretty rigorous for where i’m at although probably not on these forums…

lol no its not bad, its not even bad if you dont take AP classes, its good if you just take 1, i take 2 this semester but overall have taken 5,

My class doesn’t have any AP’s as of right now. We’re getting two next year. We have some dual enrollment college classes, though.

So if you self-study for the exams and score 5s along with a counselor explanation for the school’s AP-lacking suckiness then colleges won’t hold it against you compared to kids at superior schools???

desperate

Just take all 4 of the AP classes, then during your interviews you can just tell them that you took 100% of your school’s AP classes, and they’ll be like wow, this kid is hardcore. Problem solved

Exactly. You are evaluated within the context of your environment.

Get a tutor and start self-studying for the AP exams that are not provided for you.
For the easier APs out there (Psych, Hum. Geo.), all you really need to do is get a prep book and study the course by yourself and ask a teacher to evaluate your essays for you. I recommend going for a National AP Scholar because colleges will love how you dedicated yourself into all those APs that aren’t even offered at your school.
