Is it bad to take the act and sat 6 times?

By the College applications come around, I will have taken

the sat 3 times
the act 3 times

the subject test 2 times

Do colleges count the number of times you take a test collectively or totally separate as distinct tests?

thank you

No. 10char

Theres something called score choice where you send only the scores from the test dates you want. Colleges only see everything if you choose to send all.

See:

Im not sure if they will “flag” you for using score choice if the school doesnt accept score choice

no, they can’t see how many times you take tests unless you show them

don’t you have to pay for score choice, meaning that it didn’t apply to the previous tests you took before the most recent one? it’s not just something you can say you want. plus, i think it’s ridiculous to take it so many times. i would say 2 is the max, otherwise you don’t come across well.

Colleges will not reject an applicant for taking a test 4, 5, or 6 times. There are just so many other factors that they can use.

Watch out though. Yale and some others will not allow students to do Score Choice for the exact reason that OP is taking tests multiple times. They want to discourage the test-taking, super test-prepped kids from doing this. Therefore, in Yale’s and some other schools’ eyes, your six times taking the test will be a negative…

yeah that’s what i was sort of trying to say

You didn’t take the test six times. You took it three times. Three times is well within the norm. You should not worry about it. Honestly, the vast majority of students who take it more than that, don’t score much better. Some Adcoms admit that it bothers them when applicants take it too much because it starts to look as though you are not a very interesting person. It takes a lot of time to study and take a test. After you take it a couple of times, you should be investing your time in more interesting persuits. Colleges will only accept so many egg heads. They want to fill out the class with interesting men and women who can handle the work, but don’t live for the 800.
