Taking SAT/ACT several times is bad?

So I see all of these tales of people taking the ACT or SAT just once and getting a certain score. I think, why not take it more than once? But at that, I was looking around the forum and I saw some talk of taking the SAT and ACT many time could be a bad thing. Well, I've taken the SAT 3 times (1790) and the ACT 4 times (waiting for June 9th score, but currently 27). So I obviously need to improve. I'm going into 11th grade. But my real wonder is, how do colleges see how many times you took the test? And if they do see that, do/why they hold it against you?

Thanks for the help guys.

Most colleges do not see all the scores, unless you specifically send all the scores. However, some colleges (very small number) request that you send them all scores. Also, make sure you don’t send your scores to HS, because some will put them on your transcript and colleges will see all the scores.

I don’t think they will hold it against you because you were very young the first times you took the SAT. If you take it multiple times in your junior and senior year, then it begins to look obsessive.

Looks bad for colleges that want all scores. Most schools allow score choice though.
