how many times do you think is too much?

after 3 i heard

Yea, I hear 3 is usually the most you should take under normal circumstances

i think 3 is max in your grade 11 and 12.
do you agree?

Someone from Princeton Review once said the danger in taking more than two is if you don't show improvement. Then you could be pegged as at your limit.

if i show atleast 100 points improvement each of the 3-4 times i take the SAT, will that be ok?

Ive already taken it twice. Planning on taking atleast 3-4 more times.

that seems like overkill

Anything over three is overkill. Picture the Admissions people sitting around the table and they come across an app with four or five SAT 1 scores. Human nature tells me they will begin to comment on the number of times you took the exam and what that says about you. Is that what you really want them to talk about when they review your app? Prepare yourself well and shine by taking more SAT IIs if you think you will do well on them. Remeber ALL scores are reported. If you take it -- it's reported to the college that you apply to. You have no ability to pick and choose what scores will be sent. That goes for SAT I and SAT IIs.

What about taking it once? Does that look lazy, esp if I took it at the first possible date in my junior year? I got a good score, but it will be over a year until my applications will be read. I plan to focus on SAT IIs to do well on those, but I'm interested if it is advisable to take the SAT more than once.

Lazy? No Adm officer is going to draw that conclusion. If you are happy with your scores and they fit the averages of most of the schools that you are interested in, what's the point? Look at the stats of some of the schools. Lots of schools admit 40-50 of applicants. So focus on where you want to go. FYI in college tours this year two comments were across the board from AmOfficers. Did you challenge yourself by taking the hard courses that your school offers and what does your transcript look like. So don't fixate on the SAT.

If I jumped from say 1940 to 2170, should I take it again?

I'm pretty sure I can get 800 in math (740 last time), and I should be able to improve my CR score too.

This would be attempt number 3, and it would have to be in December (SAT IIs in November).

My ACT score was 33 if that helps at all...

I think if you're convinced that you can do significantly better, then do it. I improved by 300 points between my 1st and 3rd sitting. I got an 1810 on my 1st sitting, an 1880 on my second, and an 2110 on my 3rd, which makes my prospective schools more realistic. Don't give up

i took it three times and jumped 160 points from the first to the third. im done with the sat, though...

are you guys counting old SAT scores with this? like if ive taken two new sats and one old sat?
