Is it that bad to take the SAT more than 3 times?

I've been hearing that you shouldn't take the SAT too many times or else colleges will average out all your scores instead of taking the best one. (Some colleges, like the UC's require you to send all your scores in)
Is this true?

I've taken the SAT once at the end of sophmore year (for a scholarship) and once beginning junior year (again for a scholarship). Total I have taken it twice.
I was wondering if I should take the SAT sometime again during junior year to see where my studying has taken me and hope for the best or should I wait until Senior year so I will pull off my best shot after studying. What I'm scared of is that I'll lose my SAT skills because I'm studying less and less since schoolwork from the IB (junior & senior year) is a freaking heck load.

So tell me, is taking the SAT no more than 3 times rule real? What if I take ACTs? Does the ACT have that "rule" too?

Much thanks,

Honestly, no. I think the 3 rule only applies when you are taking 3 within the span of under a year. If you took it once during sophomore, then it shouldn’t really matter if you take it 4 times. Colleges should be able to see that you weren’t prepared back then.
